      Gr 3-5-With the upcoming 50th anniversary of the moon landing, this series could not be any timelier. The books cover a range of material, from rocketry in the early Space Race to modern life aboard the International Space Station, and highlight a diverse cast of professionals. Astronauts are not the only celebrities either; a science writer and professor and a rocket scientist are featured. Young readers will see that the journey into space requires vast knowledge and a variety of expertise. Hard-hitting topics are not ignored, nor are the subjects' lives glorified. Early influences and in some cases challenging upbringings are mentioned. World events and their effects on the subjects are also candidly explained for children. Straightforward writing, appealing visuals, and depth of content make this a series not to miss. VERDICT Top-notch for both assignment writing and pleasure reading, this is a great purchase for any collection serving elementary students.
